Care & Services
Comprehensive Natural Healthcare
An approach to primary care or general medicine that integrates diet and lifestyle recommendations, nutritional treatments, herbal medicine, physical medicine and mainstream medical approaches including prescription medications and surgery, when necessary. The goal is to use the least invasive, but most effective treatments to not only address disease but also improve vitality and wellness.
This approach works well for most medical conditions and for patients who don’t feel well, but have not received an adequate treatment from their mainstream medical providers.
Dr. Malik is a Connecticut and Vermont licensed physician. He attended a four-year doctorate program in naturopathic medicine at a nationally certified university (see About Richard Malik ND).
Naturopathic physicians are trained as primary care doctors with expertise in the appropriate, effective, and safe use of natural and prescription medicines. Preventive and holistic medicine requires knowledge of the whole body and an understanding of how varied health concerns can be a sign of simple underlying dysfunction. There is always a balance to be struck between addressing the underlying cause of disease and simply improving the symptoms associated with it. A primary goal is to have improved and lasting vitality as quickly, easily, and affordably as possible.
When used in effective and safe doses, high quality natural therapies are powerful medicines. With most patients, the goal is to limit, reduce, or eliminate their need for prescription medications. When necessary, natural and alternative approaches are used safely in conjunction with pharmaceutical therapies. Dr. Malik’s goal is to maximize each patient’s capacity for health, vitality & longevity.
The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine:
- First, do no harm
- View and treat the patient as a whole, dynamic person
- Prevent illness and disease when possible
- Find and address the cause of illness
- Act as a teacher to individual patients and the community
- Optimize patients’ innate ability to heal and maintain wellness

Endocrine (Hormone) Therapies:
Dr. Malik is an expert in addressing thyroid and adrenal gland issues with diet, herbal medicine, nutritional treatments, and all prescription thyroid hormone formulations.
Many women and men with hormonal concerns benefit from dietary, lifestyle, nutritional, and herbal approaches. Natural therapies can be very effective for an enlarged prostate (BPH), menopause, PMS, PCOS, low libido, and other concerns. When appropriate, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy with estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone is recommended. Prescription hormones are only provided in the Vermont practice location.
Dr. Malik’s approach to all hormone therapies is to first discuss the safety and risks of these treatments. Medications are always provided in the lowest dose necessary for improving symptoms with careful monitoring to ensure the highest level of safety possible.

Diagnosis & Assessment:
Dr. Malik utilizes conventional medical diagnostic approaches including standard medical physical examination, blood tests, and imaging studies to identify and diagnose disease. These approaches are the standard of healthcare and are often covered by insurance. When necessary, Dr. Malik also utilizes alternative diagnostic approaches to assess the functional status of the body and specific organ systems through specialty laboratories and in office procedures.
Assessing and optimizing the function of your body is an important part of prevention and good medicine. Functional disturbances cause people to feel unwell and occur before – sometimes long before – obvious and diagnosable disease manifests. Being proactive about preventing disease is one of the best ways to ensure a long and vibrant life.
For people with a fast-paced and demanding lifestyle, this functional approach is an effective way to improve health, increase energy, and enhance cognitive function.
When indicated, Dr. Malik addresses the environmental causes of illness. These may include: allergies; infectious diseases; chemical toxins; and heavy metals. Environmental Medicine improves health by helping you identify and remove these insults from your environment and improve your body’s ability to heal.
High-Dose Nutrient Therapies & Orthomolecular Medicine:
For some patients, Dr. Malik uses relatively high doses of essential nutrients and amino acids to treat health conditions. This approach employs a pharmaceutical approach to these essential nutrients. Oral, Intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) nutrient therapies are used. These treatments include high-dose IV vitamin C, IV Myer’s Protocol, and vitamin B-12 shots. IM and IV therapies are only available in the Vermont practice.
