About Richard Malik N.D.

Dr. Malik is a licensed physician in the state of Connecticut and has been practicing in Lakeville since early 2006, when he moved his practice from upstate New York.  Dr. Malik sees patients of all ages with diverse health conditions and concerns and regularly provides lectures/discussions on common health concerns and natural and alternative medicines. He authors a monthly column for the Lakeville Journal, Millerton News, and Winsted Journal called New Directions that addresses specific health concerns and natural treatment approaches.

Dr. Malik obtained his doctorate degree from the four year accredited naturopathic program at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. Bastyr University is a leading institution for training natural and alternative healthcare professionals. For over three years, while seeing patients at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health, he applied concepts of western and alternative medicine to help patients heal and improve their quality of life. During his training, Dr. Malik focused on environmental medicine, pediatrics, Attention Deficit Disorder, and women’s care.

He is passionate about health: his own, his patients’, and the people he loves. Dr. Malik tries to set an example on how to live healthfully and the benefits of making healthy choices. He exercises several times a week. His favorite forms of exercise are trail running, hiking, and playing basketball with his children. He consumes a whole foods diet that emphasizes vegetables, legumes, fruits, and whole grains. He eats some meats and dairy products, but only on occasion. Dr. Malik believes that supplementation is an important part of achieving or maintaining optimal health. He regularly takes a multi-vitamin and fish oil supplements while adding specific nutrients and herbal medicines as needed.

Dr. Malik strongly believes that health is not only a physical state, but also a mental and spiritual state. He works to maintain open communication with the people in his life and to cultivate his relationship with God. Truthfully offering all of his knowledge and wisdom with an open heart and an open mind are his spiritual and professional goals.

Dr. Malik lives in the beautiful Taconic Hills of Columbia County, New York with his wife and three children. He loves the country, but also enjoys the proximity to the excitement and diversity of the nearby metropolitan areas.
